App Review: Rainbow Ruckus - The Amazing World of Gumball

From the popular Cartoon Network show, The Amazing World of Gumball the brand has expanded to bringing out their own mobile app version for iOS and Android. Developer Cartoon Network EMEA Games released the app last April 15, 2015 in the United States, while the UK release was a week after (April 24, 2015).

Gumball Rainbow RuckusThe objective of the Rainbow Ruckus’ game is to defeat Jealousy (the green ghost) by restoring the stolen rainbow in its place and save the town of Elmore. Players will play as Gumball (the blue cat) throughout the game, although Darwin (orange fish with a body) will be beside you for the adventure.

Game Story

Jealousy is back. He wants revenge by wrecking the Elmore town and stealing the rainbow from the sky. Jealousy possessed the town folks and forced them to do his bidding. The player will act as Gumball and Darwin, and will aim to stop Jealousy’s evil plan by restoring the rainbow above the sky. There are 30 gripping levels wherein you will need to guide the rainbow through old sewer pipes to get back up to the sky. As Gumball, you will need to guide and protect Darwin while he fixes the pipes. With the help of Darwin’s trusty paintball gun, protect Darwin at all cost by waking up the town folk, who are under the spell of Jealousy, and shooting them otherwise they will attack your character.

There is an option to power up before the next level, so make sure to strategize your power point wisely and prepare for the upcoming stages.

Unblock the pipes and protect darwin from the possessed towns folk!

The app can be installed on Android devices running 2.3 Gingerbread and above version. Meanwhile, App Store only allows iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iOS 7.0 and later version to install the game. Apple noted that The Amazing Gumball app is already optimized for the new iPhone 6 to fit its 4.7-inch screen and maximize its faster A8 chip with 64-bit power.

Lite version of the app with eight free stages is also available at the Google Play Store.

Additional Tip:

The game itself is engaging and fun, but it will be best played on an Android handset with wide view panel and powerful graphic chipset. During our review, we used the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

App Review: Picbury

picburyPicbury is a photo-sharing iOS app that immediately piqued our interest due to the unique and really clever way it captures photos at your current location, and shares them with other people who visit the same area later on. Similar to a time capsule, Picbury digitally 'buries' your images in the place they were taken, and allows you to discover and 'dig up' photos wherever you go.

picburyIt works by keeping track of your location with the GPS on your device, and storing the coordinates of each photo at the moment it was taken; the app then tells other Picbury users how many buried photos are nearby, with a prompt to dig them up and see the area from someone else's perspective.

There's even an option to have Picbury automatically take photos throughout the day, and send a push-notification later on, allowing you to look back on key moments once you get home, although only the most extrovert of travelers would keep this on permanently.

picburyThe social aspects of sharing photos with strangers who happen upon them as they follow in your footsteps is where this app really shines, and the ability to like and comment on buried pictures turns your every step into an interactive treasure-hunt that makes the world feel more rich and engaging.

A lot of attention has gone into the design of the interface, which is uncluttered and easy to navigate even on smaller screens, and the focus is kept firmly on the pictures themselves. This is an app that is not only a great idea, but everything is well executed and aesthetically pleasing. It just works.

Picbury is a must-have app for anyone who likes to explore and discover new places while sharing their experiences with others. Go get it.

App Review: Do-EZ

do-ez80To call Do-EZ a todo-list and task management app doesn't really do it justice. That's exactly what it is, but Do-Ez does so much more than other apps of its kind, so we're going to take a deeper look at an app that's absolutely brimming with features, and find out why it dubs itself "life's little helper".

Available for iOS and Android, Do-EZ is all about sharing and collaboration - allowing you to organize not only personal tasks; but people, events, and communication in a way that makes managing your work or personal life a more social affair - with an emphasis on sharing and chat.

do-ezshotThe todo-list itself uses a timeline that allows you to set up repeating reminders and notifications for appointments, with a simple and easy to navigate interface. Creating tasks and sharing them with friends and colleges can be performed with a couple of taps. The ability to create calendars and invite others means arranging that all-important meeting is more of a team effort.

Where Do-EZ really shines is the integrated instant messaging feature, with some great presentation and a wide array of cute emoticons, the IM tool provided by Do-EZ is more than a match for Skype - and the ability to use chat-rooms as well as one-to-one chat is a welcome addition to an already useful app.

This is not an app for people who like to sit in a darkened room writing on post-it notes, but if you're looking for an app that will help you take control of your daily tasks with a focus on social interaction and collaboration, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Do-EZ is a great looking app with an intuitive UI that's actually useful. Well worth checking out!

App Review: Handwrytten

handwryttenEvery once in a while we come across an app that gives something of real value to the user, and Handwrytten for iOS is one of those apps. In this digital age, it's all too easy to feel disconnected from other people, and communication can seem insincere and impersonal, which is why Handwrytten provides a service that reintroduces the personal touch to cards and notes you send to others.

Unlike the robotic digital messages we send via e-cards and the like, a message sent from this app puts robots to good use, writing out your message in pen and ink and posting a physical card to your recipient with a real stamp on it.

handwryttenA number of typefaces are available, producing messages in everything from casual handwriting to fancy script, on a growing selection of stationary; including simple notes, birthday cards, thank-you cards and more.

Of course, the physical nature of your messages comes with a cost, but at $5 per card (including postage) it's still cheaper than buying a traditional card and posting it yourself - and the app itself is free to download.

The UI is good looking, with easy navigation, providing an at-a-glance preview of your message in your chosen style before you send. A spell-check is included, which means the only clue that your card wasn't personally handwritten could be your impeccable spelling.
